Marlies has a bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna and a master’s degree in Environmental Biotechnology from the Wageningen University in Wageningen, Netherlands. In her master thesis she worked on the microbiological interactions in methane production. In her master internship she designed a bioreactor for liquid cultivation of filamentous white-rot fungi for biopulping. She has participated in the “Blue circular challenge” in Rotterdam, a student challenge which aims to find circular solutions for different participants from the industry. There she worked with the waste-disposal company AVR on circular product solutions of municipal organic waste. She is especially interested in finding nature-based, circular solutions in cooperation with partners from science, industry, society and policy for integrated sustainable development.
