Dr Evina Katsou (MSc, PhD, HEA fellow) is the Course Director of the Water Engineering MSc at Brunel University, London. Dr Katsou is leading the Water Lab at Brunel University consisting of 7 PhD students and 4 post-doctoral students. Her research activities focus on the development and application of novel physicochemical and biochemical processes/technologies for wastewater purification and valorisation. Dr Katsou has 67 publications in international peer reviewed scientific journals with high impact factors; she has been invited to present her research work in more than 90 presentations peer reviewed proceedings of international conferences. She has delivered more than 10 invited talks as well as published 9 book chapters. Dr Katsou has one registered global patent (MI2014A002223 23/12/2014) concerning the production of biopolymers within wastewater treatment plants. She has significant experience in the development and implementation of research projects, having participated in several National and European projects. She is the principal investigator (PI) of five on-going H2020 projects related to wastewater and sludge management, Co-I to three H2020 including Factories of the Future (FoF) projects as well as five UK National projects. Prior to her appointment at Brunel University, Dr Katsou worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Verona.
Dr Katsou is the Chair of the Water Engineering group for the New Design Engineering Centre – Consultation Groups (Water Engineering Lab Chemical Analytical Lab), Departmental Director (PGR), Leader of the College International Strategy Group and a member of the selection of academic staff (panel) of the New Chemical Engineering Department at Brunel University. Dr Katsou was a member of the Cost Action Water_2020: ‘Conceiving Wastewater Treatment in 2020 – Energetic, environmental and economic challenges’ that brings together leading professionals working on complementary areas of wastewater treatment (WWT) at Research Institutions, Industries and Water Agencies from 17 European countries. She is currently leading the working group of the Cost Action CA17133 on Implementing nature based solutions for creating a resourceful circular city.
Dr Katsou undertakes a wide range of consulting activities with contracts awarded from leading UK water industry partners, including Arup, Sever Trent, BuroHappold Engineering, Anglian Water, Affinity Water and International water companies. Dr Katsou is currently Technical Director of SMART-Plant-H2020 (26 partners from 9 countries, including universities, research organizations, technology and service providers, companies, water utilities), Technical Director in HYDROUSA- H2020 (26 partners including universities, research organizations, technology and service providers, companies, public authorities, NGO’s), work package leader in INTCATCH H2020 (20 partners), Work Package Leader in SMART-Plant – H2020, (iii) work package leader in HYDROUSA- H2020, (iv) work package leader in DEEP-Purple.
