Mysterious Disappearance - Bioplastics win the Future

The dramatic effects of “peak oil”– outrageous quantities of petrochemical plastic waste in the oceans with deadly consequences - but there is a way out

…fascinating examples of innovative high-tech bio-plastics modelled on nature using sun, water and corn, sugar beet, potatoes or other renewable primary resources of our biosphere – you have the choice!

So you want to protect our climate but not do without modern packaging solutions? You don’t want nature to suffocate on petrol plastics and see countless animals dying from it both on land and sea? If so, this is the DVD you should be watching, these are the examples you should make.

Successful sustainability projects need a face: people that are convincing role models and work at a promising future. We found such people. The city of Linz and Upper Austria supported the launching of the innovative project “loop linz” and the advantageous packaging technology of biodegradable plastics and showed how perfectly these work when put to daily use.
Now here’s the DVD to accompany this project: Mysterious Disappearance – and everyone who’s interested can now get all the information on those innovative changes in our everyday lives right in front of their TV or on their computer.

Misterious Disappearance

Mysterious Disappearance stands for magic. And the magic at work here is wise biotechnology, “green chemistry” and sustainability. Why will Bioplastics win the Future? These new polymers grow on our fields and turn into fertile soil on the compost heap. And still they can be used in a seemingly infinite variety of ways: packagings, agrofoils, flowerpots or toys. Inspiring and with a profound sense of humour, this video shows how these innovative bioplastics come into existence, how they disappear miraculouslyafter use and how less sometimes can be more. We give examples that every viewer can identify with, trying to restore the connections between global problems and daily habits that are often ignored. Managing these new resources for future generations doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy life at the fullest. The secret is “sustainability means High-Tech modelled by nature” – and that can mean a lot of fun.

Working on Mysterious Disappearance was fun too: We offer fascinating information and hitherto unknown views into the world of petroleum, retail packaging and what in the long run will be left of it. As is so often the case in life, there are many possibilities, but these are far from leading to the same result. A medium for people who care about the future. Get involved – find impressive solutions and listen to captivating music. And if you are concerned about the political changes of the finalising oil-age, you will not be disappointed.

Frech wie Oscar (Oscar the Rascal)

Frech wie Oscar - Oscar the Rascal Frech wie Oscar - Oscar the Rascal

DVD animated cartoon
(15) minutes.
German and English versions.

A fun short animated film.
It conveys many important messages to children in an easy to understand way:

  • Petrochemical synthetics are not really conductive to a nice and enjoyable living environment. In fact, they poison and pollute our living spaces.
  • Waste disposal and recycling is an endeavor that has abandoned its well intended original aims and has become a profit buisness without much ethical conciousness and with sly underhand tactics.
  • There are well researched and practicable "green" alternatives that enable a good and sustainable living for all without any need for petrochemicals.
  • The world of our dreams is attainable without destroying the environment.

The film allows for quick identification with the charming characters and music helps to keep young viewers entertained. Complex interrelations are made easely understandable. A study from the University of Salzburg has shown that children assimilate the presented material very positively.

The film has won multiple awards in Austria and abroad.

Books written by alchemia-nova's Head of Institute:

“Zeitbombe Chemie - Strategien zur Entgiftung unserer Welt”
(The chemical Timebomb - Strategies for a non-toxic world)

Hanswerner Mackwitz and Barbara Köszegi
In German language.
Bestseller.

This book established Hanswerner Mackwitz both as a leading critic of conventional chemical practices, and as a provider for alternative soft, green solutions.

Following citation describes the content perfectly:
“Zeitbombe Chemie” is the concise title of a book written by Hanswerner Mackwitz and Barbara Köszegi which appeared in 1980 and an enhanced revised version was published in 1983. Both of the authors are renowned environmental chemists and know what they talk about. In a coherent way the authors confront the reader with a frightening scenario concerning the world of chemistry and it’s ubiquitous consequences in our every day lives. At the same time the book, which attracted a lot of media attention, shows sophisticated and realistic ways of dealing with these problems and paves the way for a middle-term, widely non-toxic strategy for our world.”
Dipl.-Ing. Batlogg, Representative of the parliament of Vorarlberg (Austria)

“Öko-Tricks und Bio-Schwindel”
(Eco-tricks and bio-swindle)

Hanswerner Mackwitz and Adam Adler
In German language.
Bestseller.

The authors take a close and critical look at “environmental” enterprises, “eco-friendly” products and associated institutions. They uncover filthy eco-compromises and finally offer the reader a variety of strategies and methods of resolution that have already led to surprising consequences.

Hanswerner Mackwitz and Adam Adler disprove the “ministery of truth”. In their book, which is a pleasure to read because of the flowing way of writing, pseudo-eco-trends are unmasked in every area of life. This opus is an important guidebook for every consumer who rejects eco-compromises and assumes responsibility for the present and the future.

“Very advisable.”
Journal “Natur”
“A critical opus….like a book of Orwell!”
Die Weltwoche, Zurich
“An informative opus. An important guidebook for the conscious consumer.”
ORF teletext Vienna “
“A thrilling, briskly writte. Comprehensively researched work about an important topic of our times.”

back to top“Reiz-Wäsche” - Textiles: Pick your Poison

“Reiz-Wäsche”
(Textiles: Pick your Poison)

Hanswerner Mackwitz and Wolfgang Hingst
In German language.

Is it your fault that you sweat under your second skin? Whoever reacts allergically to clothes has a private problem?

No! – the authors lash out in a furious attack against fashion artists and the textile industry. Textile fibres are put to test – that means merciless investigation in the industrial- and eco-scene. For example, cotton: You find out everything from the cultivation, over to the colouring and the refining, to the treatment of your disused vesture.

The book approves ecological innovations. The synthetic fibre-industry has denounced natural fibres dead, but the eco-avant-garde knows that health-conscious consumers don’t want to wear sackcloth and ashes. A posh outfit can definietly be part of a tender philosophy.
